Five Preguntas With Rick Gonzalez
Posted on: Wed, 05/21/2008 - 5:34pm
Fraternity pledge, roller skater and demon hunter are just some of the roles Generation ñ actor Rick Gonzalez has portrayed on screen. Yet, the Puerto Rican/Dominican shows no signs of slowing down. Along with his starring role on the CW's Reaper, which airs its season finale this week, he'll take a trip back to the silver screen with The Promotion and Pride and Glory with Colin Farrell. On location in Vancouver, Canada, Gonzalez takes time out to discuss working on the small screen and the exact way to scold Farrell like a stepchild.
SiTV.com: How did you get involved with the show Reaper?
Rick Gonzalez: At the time I wasn't interested in doing TV, but I came across the script and looked at it, and really liked it. Then I found out Kevin Smith was attached to the project and that was another plus. It was one of those things where it is usually something I wouldn't do but because there were good people involved I decided to do it.
SiTV.com: How has it been working on the set of the show; it's not like other projects you've been associated with?
RG: Working with people on a TV show is a good time. I love the vibe. I like that kind of comedy, it's lighthearted and you really don't have to think too hard about it. The atmosphere on the set is cool. We have great times; there is great chemistry between us all. We just really enjoyed our time together, and we are working in beautiful Vancouver, Canada so that always helps.
SiTV.com: What else do you have in store for us this year?
RG: I have another movie called The Promotion, with Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly. It's about two guys trying to get the head promotion as a manager in a supermarket. I play a bad boy in this supermarket and it's a bunch of adventures within the store. It's like an inside joke with Reilly's character.
SiTV.com: Tell us about Pride and Glory and acting with Colin Farrell.
RG: I am a huge fan of Colin Farrell so I jumped at the chance to work with him. Basically, I play this character that pays Farrell to do a job for him and it doesn't get done. So in the scene I am asking him, a little angrily, how come he didn't get it done for me. How come you didn't do the job? The movie is about a family of cops and [Farrell] is the black sheep of the family who is a corrupt cop.
SiTV.com: Wow, so you got to scream at Colin Farrell?
RG: Yeah, I got to get all in his face and get angry. (Laughs). That dude is a really good actor so it was fun.
