Groupies can ruin a marriage. But if you’re Alejandra Tejada, wife of major leaguer Miguel Tejada, you learn to deal with it. The Dominican cutie has managed to keep her Baltimore Oriole esposo happy for 13 years and raise their two children. When she bores of shopping for Prada bags or jet-setting across the Caribbean, she is hard at work on her debut album AMA! In the meantime Mrs. Tejada sat with [Si] Entertainment to fill us in on writing love songs, keeping the romance alive, oh and a pro-athlete’s worst vice: groupies.

I love being Dominican because…
“It is where all my best memories took place. I was born there and my family is there. I love my homeland because there is nothing like it. I love my people, my rice and beans (laughs), and my beaches. The Dominican Republic is my home and my heart.”

I sing ballads and not bachatas because...
“I am a very romantic person and I love everything that has to do with love. I love music that has a lot of feeling and expresses it profoundly. I can write salsa, merengue and reggaeton as well, but I prefer to sing ballads.”

I married Miguel Tejada because...
“He is a good guy! He is so sincere, honest and hardworking. When you find someone like that you have to snatch them up.”

I never feel threatened by my husband’s career because...
“I embrace anything positive that comes my way, big or small; as long as it brings happiness and positivity to the family as a whole that is all that matters.”

Baseball to me is...
“The center of my life. It’s a sport that I take pride in because I see all the fans and how much they support the players. Even when they are not doing so great they are there cheering them on. They are so loyal and dedicated. I love that it is a sport of tradition.”

The hardest thing about being married to a pro-athlete is…
“The distance. Whether it’s a pro baseball player or just any athlete in general, they have to travel a lot. They are hardly ever home, their job takes up a lot of their time and when there are children involved it is very hard to deal with.”

The most romantic thing my husband has ever done for me...
“Oh my goodness, there are so many! He is a very romantic person. One time he had an entire mariachi band come to the house to serenade me just because he knows how much I adore mariachis. So there they were guitars and all, singing to me.”

I understand that groupies are...
“Just a part of the job. They are included in the package, so you just learn to deal with it. It’s nothing to stress over or worry about.”

I advise women dating or married to pro-athletes to...
“Do everything with love. You know women are the glue and the nucleus of everything: the home and the family. Love has to be at the center of all we do. You can’t worry about the things that are going to happen, these things will come and pass. So, you do all things with love and just keep on, keep fighting and protecting your family--that is the most important thing.”
