East L.A.’s Upground returns to South by South West (SXSW) for Second Year Upground to showcase in downtown Austin, Texas
Los Angeles – Upground, the East L.A. band with its cohesive blend of musical genres, will demonstrate why it has been extended a rare second invitation to the SXSW Music Festival and Conference, at Maggie Mae’s Gibson Room in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 1 a.m.
Upground will ignite the stage with a fiery performance that introduces a rare mixture of various music genres into one distinct sound. Upground’s music is an energetic fusion of Reggae, Latin, Ska, Cumbia and Rock. The SXSW showcases select musical acts from around the world on more than 50 stages in downtown Austin.
In an interview with SiTV, Ozomatli’s Will “Wil-Dog” Abers commended the group; “They definitely have a lot of talent, a lot of energy…they come out and they just want to rock the house.”
With an ever increasing following, the young band continues to capture the attention of audiences nationwide and bolster its already extensive résumé, including a signing deal with Peer Music, the largest independent publishing company. In the summer of 2006, the band released its highly anticipated first full-length CD, “Feel the Vibe.”
The single, “The Starting Line,” was recorded by Wil-Dog Abers and engineered by the acclaimed Robert Carranza, who has worked with Jack Johnson, The Mars Volta and Bjork.
Upground has opened for War, The Killers, Los Lobos and Ozomatli. Its evolving music is proving successful. With invitations stretching from prestigious television companies including Fox News, Univision, Mun2 and Telemundo, to world renowned music events.
Upground won the 2006 Sprint Battle of the Bands, outperforming 400 bands. The band also showcased its distinctive sound at the Latino Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) held in New York with more than 1,250 industry leaders and 30,000 fans.
