A  new direction for education:

Im a 23 year old latino producer/recording artist/songwriter/ business owner.  That is the easiest way i know how to describe myself professionally.  For many others my age it is a little easier.  It is so crazy to me that i have friends my age who are teachers, counselors, and city planers.  Well, I can see how that can happen when i really think about it.  I’’’ve been going to college since the fall of 2002.  Many of my friends who started then have already graduated over a few years ago.  why is it taking me so long?  The short answer is my production company.

For many years I have school as a distraction that kept me from  pursuing my dream all day.  It was clear to me the first semester of college that my heart was not in it.  I continued the next two years for my fathers sanity.  He worried (and problem still does) about how i will take care of myself in this world.   the fact that i was working and going to school gave him peace of mind.  Buy over the last 3 years i have been able to prove to many, including my father that I'm serious about my music.  I’ve proved this by providing results with my hard work.  

Lately I have been going to school for different reasons:.  One is to meet and interact with new people and the second is for mental stimulation.  BUt at the end of the day I know that my time would be better spent on my business in my ongoing effort to open doors.  So thats what I’m doing now.  

There are a lot of great things that i feel are coming my way so i am doing everything i can to ready myself.  i see it as a massive self improvement campaign to make my self into the best version of marcos that i can be.  im stepping up as a producer, as a songwriter, as a performer, as a dancer, and im stepping up my knowledge on all fronts.  I read in order to step up my knowledge.  During the course of a normal day i will have read at least five chapters in at least three books.  The books range from music production, to music law, to business management.  Every now and then i balance that out with a few comic books.  I have to stay up to date on spidey and the x-men right? hahah.. but seriously, the reading is helping me so much in my music production company everyday.  

But the final piece to my “education upgrade includes a new direction of school.  As of January 7th, i will be attending berkeley universities online music college.  The first 6 month degree i will get is in music business.  This is important for me because i hope to be talking to major industry people this year about scoring production deals or possibly my own indie label with major label distribution and funding.  Getting that degree will show that im capable of being successful.  The second degree i will get is in studio production.  This is to polish my craft and also to prove to many that i am a professional in every sense of the word when it comes to my music.  Paying for the degrees wont be easy but what is now and days?   The great things is that its flexible enough to where i can still keep my business thriving.  This is just another step to making my dream a reality.  and for those of you who think i still need more mainstream  education my answer is the history channel and discovery!
