Welcome to the first behind the scenes blog for ROOM 28. When people watch our sketches they'll probably have questions such as, "What is this about?", "How long did it take to film?" or "Why am I tied to this chair?" In these behind the scenes blogs you'll get the inside story of what went on during the filming [even the perverted stuff].
Our first sketch we are focusing on is called "FIRST OFFENSE." Now the only description I can give you of this sketch is that its the first "hidden camera prank crime prevention reality" show. The photo above shows Jerry [aka ELMO DIFOCA] and myself, Jaime [aka J-FERNZ] in the 70's porno 'stache. We are the hosts of the show and since we are both Method comedians, we ended up taking the characters home with us. I did not want to take my moustache off for a full week after filming because I thought it made me look tough. It got to the point where my family staged an intervention for me at the Olive Garden. By the end of the night I was violently throwing breadsticks at my father and was physically thrown out by a 300 pound waitress named Martha who said I was "disturbing the peace" and that I had "the devil's facial hair" and to "stop quoting everything I say." The next morning I realized that I would remove the fake 'stache because it was affecting my relationship with the people I love the most and also because I was starting to get an infection on my upper lip from not washing it for a week.
Jerry aka Elmo Difoca also was becoming a little too much like the character he portrayed. He was wearing a fake bulletproof vest in the skit that he refused to take off. I heard that since we filmed, he has been stealing money from small businesses while wearing the vest and yelling out lines from "Training Day." I tried to call him but all I got was his voicemail which said, "This is Jerry's voicemail. If I'm not picking up the phone I'm probably committing a serious crime at the moment. King Kong ain't got nothing on me!!!!! Please leave a message." [Gunshot noise and then beep].
So now you know how dangerous it can be when you play a character...... because it might end up playing you. Hopefully by the time you see the FIRST OFFENSE sketch in a couple of weeks, my infection will have healed and Jerry will have changed his voicemail message. -J-FERNZ
