For those unaware, Stephen Spielberg is a huge video gamer. The man behind such classic movies like Poltergiest, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Goonies, E.T., the Indiana Jones movies and a host of others loves video games. He was the mastermind behind the Medal of Honor series which was kind of an add-on to his Band of Brothers HBO series and his film Saving Private Ryan.
So when news spread that Spielberg scored a deal with EA Games to create video games, us gamers were more than excited. Finally, a big Hollywood writer and director will be able to bring his magic to the video game world offering story-driven, cinematic and action packed video games.
But alas, that's not what we're getting. Instead, we have a game called Boom Blox exclusively for the Wii. Yes, it's a child's game where you get to knock down and blow up blocks using you're Wii controllers. I went to the presentation for the game at the Game Developer's Conference back in February and people seem to be excited about it, even though it's not what we'd expect from Spielberg as his first game. Regardless, he was involved in the development of the game from start to finish and it is his vision. Hopefully next time we can get something a bit... grander? We'll see. Here's the trailer for the game, what do you think?
