Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law (PS2, PSP, Wii)
Harvey Birdman seems to be targeting the die-hard fans of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming. Birdman, a former superhero and now an attorney at law, goes around solving cases in the TV show, and for the video game you get to do the same. But what's different with this video game is that instead of controlling different characters, you choose
responses and make selections to activate cut scenes. The game has five court cases, and each case there is evidence and witnesses that you are able to present. When questioning a witness, there are a couple options to choose from in the form of questions or responses. Similarly with the evidence, you choose which piece to present to either further your case or harm it. The game as a whole seems like it would have been better as an "extra" on a DVD collection, or a flash game on a website. For me, it's not worth $30, but then again, I'm not a die-hard Birdman head.
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom (Xbox 360)
The Kingdom Under Fire series is known for its strategy-based gameplay similar to Dynasty Warriors, but for Circle of Doom it strictly stays with the hack-n-slash and role-playing elements. There are five different characters you can play as and each of them has five different stories.
The weird thing is, as you play through, it seems like the actual game play has nothing to the story in the cut scenes. You're just slashing through a bunch of monsters, on your way to who knows where, having no idea why. The upgrade system is pretty easy to get a handle of but the synthesizing of items takes some to figure out what it really does. Although the graphics are great, the monsters are interesting, and the actual game play is pretty fun, it really feels tedious and all for naught. I understand that the KUF series was trying to attract new fans, but it doesn't work for me, plus it the disregard for the strategy element may have angered previous fans.
