Happy day-after-Valentine’s-Day..err...Day!
To all you men out there who failed miserably in your attempt to be romantic, you now have another 364 worry-free days before you make a last-second dash to Walgreens to pick up a box of cheap chocolates and fake flowers. With that said, and the woman-created holiday behind us, lets move on to our other true love: Football (or for those Americans reading this, “soccer”). Although I must admit, I cringe at calling it soccer considering our sport has absolutely everything to do with the feet. And yet, American Football is called Foot-ball…but I move on.
Since this is my first blog on SiTV, let me start by saying hello to every person on SiTV, and pay a compliment to this great channel and website. And no, I’m not just saying that because I write for them, but because I clicked on a couple of their shows, and was amazed. In case you haven’t looked around, do so: unique, exciting, and just flat-out cutting edge television and web entertainment! So, my first Happy-Day-After-Valentine-Day kiss goes to SiTV.
Now let’s move on to my love poem to Football (or if you will, Futbol or “Soccer”).
Ode to Football
How much do I love you, let me count the ways…
Actually, forget that. You will quickly learn that I tend to be as un-cliché as possible, and I also tend to go off on random rants, which I will post here in the future. But for my first blog, let me scrap my poem idea. Instead, I will just randomly mention some of the moments that I can’t live without. All of you reading this blog, take my lead and respond with some of your own. Here are a few of mine:
• Messi with the Ball tied to his laces.
• Cristiano ronaldo shaking and baking, and this season, actually scoring at a torid pace.
• A hard crushing tackle by a defender who smiles at a yellow card.
• An even harder crushing tackle by a defender, and his coach who smiles at the red card.
• Diego Maradona Highlights. Any of them. Even as an 8-year-old kid joggling a soccer ball.
• Maradona dribbling past 5 English defenders in ’86.
• Messi in an almost identical fashion dribbling past 5 Getafe defenders in ‘07.
• Brazilian female fans in the stands dancing samba.
• Ronaldinho on the field dancing samba.
• A close-up of Jose Mourinho, looking like a pimp (sidenote: Hope he goes to Barcelona).
• A play-by-play announcer going nuts over a goal.
• Ray Hudson of GolTV describing any spectacular play.
• Being able to actually call a goal by Argentina during a World Cup Qualifier.
• An avalanche of fans crashing down, section after section, celebrating a goal.
• Fans in stadiums around the world changing the words to 80’s song “Pop Goes the World” and turning it into a cheer for their team.
• An entire city coming out to celebrate a Championship.
• La Plata celebrating an Estudiantes Championship for the first time in 23 years.
• Reading emails from fans who love my style.
• And, last but not least, counting down the days to the next World Cup.
Needless to say, I left out countless others. But that’s your job; respond back with some of your favorites-- players, countries, clubs. Tell me what teams you are passionate about, and let’s continue to love the greatest sport in the world, “Soccer.”
