I had the pleasure of spending some time with Erykah Badu in New York in December. She was doing press and having photo shoots as well as finishing up the last touches of her new album "New Amerikah"...She scheduled an intimite listening party at Jimmy Hendrix'z studio on 8th street in Manhatten called Electric Lady (how appropriate) The space was filled with a few moguls...Sylvia Rhone, Andre Harrell and Kedar Massenburge were in the house along with Q-Tip. The vibe was set in the way that only Ms. Badu could create...Dim lights, sweet sents, cheeze and wine flowing....Erykah was chillin with her BIG afro and a Kamono. We all sat and grooved listening to her new baby, that she's so proud of...This collection of work is reminescent of the 70's...u know when our parents were having house parties and cats was rocking afro's and platforms...Afterwards, we all went to this spot around the corner called LOVE where Tip was spinnin'....We had a great night that night. The house was packed...A couple of us, along with Maxwell and D-Nice were in the tight dj booth, gettin our full groove on...I asked Maxwell when was he droppin his album...he said it would be real soon. I told him we miss him and his "soul" music is neccessary!!! He said he needed to take a break...shit was gettin' 2 political...he needed to step back and re-inspired. With all the bullshit that is filling our airwaves these days, I can understand how real Artist can loose their inspiration these days. I remain hopeful that it's all turning around as i write these words. Anywhooo...HONEY, the first single off of Erykah Badus album is scheduled to drop on the 26th of Feb. Here's the new video.
