Tis the season for family films and Christmas themed movies. Possibly the last opportunity for the Academy to see the contenders (I hope there some GREAT ones)
The movies that are catching my eye are:
Iorek Byrnison from Golden Compass
The Golden Compass- there has been controversy about the atheist tone of the movie. I even received an email saying not to watch the movie if I believed in god--- very interesting that people would spend the time... and in the production side there were reshoots to this film possibly to make it commercial enough for all people with variety of beliefs to put down a buck.
I'm curious about the story itself... We will all see.
The Perfect Holiday- this could be cute one if you are a hopless romantic... It definitely has possibilities. Its about a young girl who asks for a boyfriend for her divorced mom... do you think she will get one? Who knows! what Christmas movie didnt have wishes granted?
Alvin and the Chipmunks- I have already wrote a blog about this film, I am very excited to see what they have come up with for this generation of chipmunks. And it is a Christmas Tradition to hear these popular rodents.
Charlie Wilsons War- This movie coming out in Christmas time... "So Merry Holidays! See why there is a WAR!" It could be a film to show us the USA scapegoats or something more controversial. At least it has three super star power actors. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymore Hoffman.
I may wait for the DVD release.
And for a Jolly Musical...
Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tim Burton(director).
Sweeny Todd- hmm well it seems like a morbid musical for the season but Johnny Depp is worth the time. I am intrigued for sure. However people are already talking about it being a flop. Musicals are picking up, maybe an emo-slasher-twist will make it a classic... so move over Sound of Music, Sweeny Todd is the new Holiday Classic!
National Treasure: the book of secrets- Adventure movie time! You know this is going to full of adrenaline! I like Nicholas Cage he knows action. Definitely fun for the whole family...maybe even make some young minds think about History and Archeology for a career.
I still love watching White Christmas and It's a Wonderful life during this time of year, while I bake and just relax in a cold winter night.
Let me know what movies remind you of the season?
