Have You Met...

Tragedy in Your Own Backyard

I don't know about you, but when a national news story happens right in your neighborhood it can definitely shake you up.

This past week two LAPD SWAT officers were shot (one died) in a wild standoff in LA's San Fernando Valley.  Obviously this an extremely tragic story that would grab anyone's attention, but when I heard where it happened it perked my ears even more.  The Winnetka area where it all went down is like three freeway exits from where I live. Then I hear the street (Welby Way), which is actually in a neighborhood where one of my old buddies used to live.  Things like this make can make a tragedy hit home even more.

Sure we get sad when there's a mall shooting, a bank shootout or whatever, but when you see it happening in your own backyard it opens your eyes even more to the reality of these kinds of tragedies.  In this case, it's the loss of a decorated LA SWAT officer (the first to be killed in the line of duty).  Rest In Peace Randy Simmons.  Thanks for your years of dedicated service and for (literally) keeping our neighborhoods safe from scum like Mr. Rivera
