Mi Gente!!

I was recently invited to participate on a panel for the Empower Change Summit put on by the Democracy Now Institute. It was held at the UCLA campus here in L.A. My Girl pictured above with yours truly, Wendy Carrillo, was the event's MC. She's the host of the Power 106 Knowledge is Power show that airs every Sunday from 7-8am. It's a community based show so you know my girl is down for our gente. Tune in!!

Wendy was the moderator for the panel I was on, Empower Change in Your Community. Here she's ready to lead us to our panel. They had panels on Using New & Emerging Technologies, Making Change Your Career, Relationship Building: Networking & Finding Allies, Ecology, Economy & Equity: Transforming Education and many more empowering topics.

We had a great turn out for our panel. It was very diverse in terms of background, ethnicity and gender. It was clear that the thirst for knowledge and the commitment to positive change is there. The prevailing message we tried to relay was that it was important to identify a cause that was close to our hearts and take action. Si Se Puede!!!

After all the panels concluded everyone congregated at Royce Hall where the summit's keynote speaker former President Bill Clinton gave a passionate speech. He called on our generation to step up to the challenge of fixing the wrongs that were being passed on to us. The Middle East crisis, the environment, our countries internal divides, the Immigration crisis. Everyone was very moved and inspired!! Now it's time for action.
