Fun in NYC: Duet 35

http://www.karaokeduet.com/

I have to give a shout out to an NYC karaoke establishment.  You can find Duet 35 and Duet 48 in Manhattan.  Being a Spanish speaker, I would recommend Duet 35.  Don't karaoke?  This is a private-room karaoke, nothing like the bar setting where you have to perform for the masses.  At Duet 35 you get your own little lounge depending on the size of your entourage.  You get a karaoke machine, a couple of mics, a tambourine, and best of all a phone to the bar!  The Duet drinks are GOOD!

So like I said, being a Spanish speaker Duet 35 has a nice assortment of Spanish (Mexican friendly) jams.  I was pleased.  I had my choice of Vicente Fernandez, Juan Gabriel, and Jose Alfredo Jimenez to try out.  Unfortunately these mugs sing too good.  I was trying out the old staple, Ella, emitting the last croak of a laryngitic bullfrog, when the one other Mexican in NYC besides me stuck his face in the window of our booth.  We shared a moment.  What are the odds that there's two Mexicans at the same spot in Manhattan!?  Amazing!  Maybe the dude wasn't Mexican, but he seemed to be down for Jose Alfredo Jimenez so I'll let him join the club.

The English selection was strong as well.  My group's caterwauling went on until about midnight on a Wednesday.  We just couldn't go home.  I'll definitely be back the next time I find myself in New York City.  Much jealousy to the folks who live there and can go anytime they want.  Duet 35 is definitely the best Karaoke spot I've been to.  Rooms are good, songs are good, and drinks are good.  What more can you ask for?
