Have You Met...

EACH MORNING: A MUSICAL DEDICATION TO FROSTY FREEZE

My people, mi gente….every now and then I lose all hope, I lose faith that the true message of our Hip Hop culture will never resurface, at least not in todays mainstream society- since Dj’s and networks only play or display the candy rap degrading images of our streets and our people.

My people…every now and then there comes a true MC not afraid to spit truth and add fire to the flames who restores the faith.  NYOIL is one of the few Hood Healers who try to provide music and messages of substance and draw attention to the fact that we are not divided and that Hip hop is worldwide and has connected black and brown, yellow and pink, white and olive all the colors of the HUMAN rainbow and it was a tool of expression for those with no voice or identity.

The DJ, the MC, the GRAFF ARTIST, the BBOY/BGIRL each one, a vital element to the culture of hip hop, each one a form of street expression, yes, art my people. HIP HOP is voice of the people of the streets -from every hood -from every corner of the earth as you can see in this video. The common thread in the uncommon situations, even in War! Anywhere there is struggle, pain and obstacles you will find the hip hop influence incorporated into the culture.

Hip Hop’s influence has spanned thirty years and will continue to rise and there will always be the FEW who dare to challenge mainstream perception of the ideologies of our culture.

Shout out to the Originators Melle Mel, Kool Herc, Dj Disco Wiz, Crazy Legs, Ken Swift, TAKI 183, Super kool 223 and  Tracy 186

Shout out to the few current underground HOOD HEALERS Supa Nova Slom, Immortal Technique, and Rebel Diaz, ABGIRl, The Domestic Apes and Toofly

A little about Frosty Freeze....

Frosty got his start in 1978 with the Bronx-based Rock City Crew. In 1981, he became part of the Rock Steady Crew, joining such acclaimed breakdancers as Ken Swift and Lil Crazy Legs.

Frosty toured the world with the Rock Steady Crew and other hip-hop artists, including Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000 and Kool Lady Blue.

Graffiti artist and close friend Zulu King Slone, who knew Frost for 15 years, said he was "like a walking hip-hop culture encyclopedia."

Frosty also appeared in several movies on hip-hop culture, including "Wild Style," ”Beat Street" and "Style Wars."

It was noted in the many articles acroos the internet that during Frosty's last days , he was smiling , laughing and grateful for the friends that visited him. Our fallen street soldier.

In my mind's eye I can see you hermano just as you are in the main picture for this blog, showing your moves to the band of ancestors that carried you up, smiling , laughing and covering the golden streets in heaven with FROST -with your signature moves, pain free and free from pain- slipping and sliding and gliding and flipping your way to meet The Ruler Of The Sun. Rest in PARAISO!
