Discrimination? Who does that?

SO my good friends, Natalie and Nicole (NinaSky) took me out to dinner for my birthday last night. One of my favorite things in the world is having dinner & drinks with my friends at a new resturant. We were all excited to go a little bougie and eat at Phillipe's by Phillipe Chow (the infamously impossible-to-get-a-table-at "Mr. Chow" breakoff for those of you who don't know) and had reservations. As soon as we got there we were greeted by a hand-in-the-face weilding hostess who un-politely politely asked "Can I help you?". Nicole said "Yea, we have a reservation." and then she she asked us "With who?" What!? We were getting the up-and-down look and it became obvious they were not into our "urban latina" look. Apparently, "upper east side snob" was the special of the night since that's all we saw after she finally decided to seat us. Much to our surprise, "bullet proof vests" was the other special when we realized we were sitting a few tables away from 50 Cent. I don't get it. This is New York, one of te most modern cities in the world and we're still having "Pretty Woman" episodes? Anyway, good food, shitty service. I just had to get that out.

and this is why the upper east side will never be part of
the true mechanism that is New York City. I'm not surprised
by the events you described but i'am bothered that this
kind of thing still happens...
ps. happy born day.
pss. ivan's right... bout the hostess... lol. good point.
Lady Stylez only those who go through the discrimination can have a true understanding of how belittling an experience it is. I go on a lot of business trips with my 9 to 5 and it wasn’t until my boss traveled with me for two weeks that he saw what I was subject to on the road. A young Puerto Rican with a corporate card and direct billed hotel rooms leads to a lot of explaining… At the end of the day I take it as a compliment… We’re not “supposed” to be there so the fact that we are raises eyebrows… The only reason they let the hostess in the door who mistreated you is because she works there… Peace & Love… Keep doing you!
