Hello Sitvers,
Its rare these days when we can have an accomplishment that we can all collectively bow to success. Today was one of them. Today IN THE HEIGHTS broadway musical snagged 13 tony nominees. I dont think Words can express the attitude and happiness an artist can have when you hear news like that. I know that the future will be written and we will see the final tally of the actual amount of tonys IN THE HEIGHTS will win. But regardless to get the reconigntion of this magnitude shows alot of good signs for the future.
I have seen IN THE HEIGHTS four times, and everytime i left inspired and proud of the work LIN MANUEL MIRANDA has done. He is the master mind that was heard. Besides being latino, the man has pushed the bar of excellence for latino artists. If you are true artist you have to tip your hat to the whole crew from the dancers, to the performers to the whole marketing campaign of this production. I know that theres a good amount of people that had doubts that even though it was a great show, that it being tagged as a latino musical on broadway it wouldnt be able to survive the run. With the combination of past failures to the prices of tickets that are not catered to latinos who are use to shelling out that amount of money. That success wasnt going to be able to be seen. EHHH! wrong.. It made it. This is a prime example of true heart, character and charisma of an artist superseeding the norm.
I got to interview Lin manuel before the official run of the broadway show. One thing that stood out is the true character of this man. He was humble and appreciative of the success of the musical. He told me that even if it was pulled off the first week that to him it was a success. For him to have the opportunity to express and do what he loves is what counts. Well Lin you were rewarded 10 fold. I must say this is what latinos need as artist across all arts. Let this be a day of archiving for us. Lets not surcome to the pressures of what we should express. Be you and go 1000 percent.
In conclusion..If you havent seen IN THE HEIGHTS see it twice. LOL..Seriously..You ll leave with some inspirations. Which at the end of the day we as artists strive to recieve and give.
Im out...ohh wait...Thank you Lin Manuel!

I'm sure I inspired this musical 20 years ago when I lived on 177th and would sing out loud on my fire escape (LOL). I miss it. I can still smell the platanos!!!
Anypues, I super appreciate your posting this. I am of course jealous that you've seen it four times and I will have to wait for the second run to come to LA before I see it once.
Well said Mike!!!
