plug awards, 2008. aweeee yeah! they were rockin and if you weren't there you should definitely get into the photos below and check back next week for video footage!! the event sold out terminal 5 in all of 10 minutes and hipsters and music geeks everywhere were rejoicing that FINALLY there were awards for the real music, our music, the national and jose gonzalez as opposed to celine dion (sorry nav) and herbie hancock (ok so i stole this semi-joke from patton oswalt). not that i'm knockin the grammy's. this year was the first year i had friends nominated and actually knew and GASP listened to a good majority of the winners. but still, for bands not on one of the 'we're almost bankrupt' majors...they've been left without recognition in our dang country. thank you juno’s and the brit awards but what about US? what about the fans? it's about time someone came along and gave out awards for what the fans want. nominees were chosen by bloggers, record store owners and other movers and shakers. winners were chosen through online voting by people all over the world. being able to vote for your favorite bands, songs, music venue and more? awesome me thinks. kudos to founders gerry hart and amaechi uzoigwe. you both rule.

the live performances were more than enough to keep our hearts in motion all night - thank you extra specially to nick cave, dizzee rascal st. vincent, jose gonzalez and bat for lashes. white denim, you were pretty cool but i swear i thought your name was the exposure. why? because at the end of the set you yelled 'thanks! hgruoshguihgu the exposure!!' maybe it was the beer, but it sounded like you screamed 'thanks we're the exposure!' so that's what i wrote you down as. come to find out you are really white denim. small marketing tip - if you are an unknown band getting a great chance to show your stuff, mention your name. it will get you places. in any case. my new friend michael and i concluded that 'the exposure' would be a great band name so you can go ahead and snatch that up right now. don't forget to thank me in your album credits.

the lowdown on the awards -

radiohead? band of the year (of course). i loved patton oswalts commentary on why they couldn't be there to accept in person. apparently they were playing a shakey's pizza in ronkonkoma. ummm hahha. yeah.

best live act? arcade fire. i haven't seen them yet but after all the hype from pretty much every i know i figured as much.

i was super rooting for jose gonzalez to win best americana album but he lost to iron & wine. not surprised by that either. he was on the cover of some magazine in 2007 literally being touted as the next 'jesus'. now i love sam beem but jesus? maybe in looks, but come now people.

my favorite awards, just for the fact of being COOL categories had to be best magazine (paste won) and best record label (merge).

biggest disappointment award? bat for lashes, the performance i was MOST looking forward to...she played at 630pm. ummmm....the doors OPENED at 7pm. now, that's just downright RUDE. excited to hear natascha's moved to williamsburg though. bring on more shows please. i will have to make this happen. oh yes. yes i will. magical manifestation of all that i want? ready….go!

new best friends? michael and taleen. know when you see people across the room and have insta best friend moment? indeed. this occurred. taleen rules. i have the photos to prove it. and michael with the rolling rocks and his live blog on urb. we were having fun to say the least. i got some footage of st. vincent and dizzee rascal and a few still of us havin fun so ENJOY! the sparkling future of independent music is growing stronger by the second. i've no doubt this award show is going to be the IT awards, sister to the brit awards and the juno’s. just needs a few more years to grow grow grow. woot. the end. :)
