Caliente NYC Nas Concert!

Coño Nas throws a hot ass concert! Hot meaning sweltering not hot meaning Illmatic. My homie HD and I attended Esco's concert last night at the Blender Theatre. His controversial Untitled album dropped yesterday and Hot 97FM and Def Jam decided to let his fans come out and celebrate with him. We get there promptly at 7pm get in at 7:30pm; we greet the usual peeps and proceed to sweat all our asses off, pause. Mister Cee was spinning some classic joints but the heat was unbearable. We were right behind some potheads and next to some squares trying to be down. It didn't help that the ratio of men to women was 10 to 1. I usually give two s**ts about a sausage fest because I'm married but it's a well-known fact that men sweat buckets and women glisten.

We decided to move but we had little to no relief. Even though Cee had a great set we came to see Nas. He finally comes on at 9:15PM and by then my shirt looks like I ran five miles on a treadmill. Nas, rocking a red shirt and sunglasses, performs some new songs ("Hero" with Keri Hilson, "Sly Fox") of his new LP. It's still hot and I'm inching towards the exit when he begins to roll off some Illmatic songs. I couldn't leave now. "NY State of Mind," "Halftime," "One Love," "The World Is Yours," "Represent,"-it felt like I was 14 again listening to my cassette player while gulping a quarter drink. He performed more of my favorites ("Hate Me Now," "Nas Is Like") and then I bounced. Even though Nas' catalogue is insane he has little stage presence. He's a stationary performer who says every word precisely. It would have been better with more movement and more crowd participation. But Nas has always been about the message and with his new controversial album let's hope it reaches everyone.
