Anyone from the streets will tell you HBO's The Wire is without a doubt one of the realest shows to ever hit the TV screen.
They've exposed the world to the way street dudes get down in the inner cities and revealed secrets of the drug game like how burners (cell phones) are used, or at least used to be used, to communicate without the wiretaps... How drug dealers follow the rented car full of drugs with their flashy car to divert attention from the courier and many more down-low methods used daily to conduct illegal drug operations.
Season Five's premiere episode started out no different - showing secrets - But this time the show aired the dirty laundry of the Pacheco, Po-Po, Five-Oh or anything else you want to call the boys in blue.
I laughed out loud when I saw Homicide Detective Bunk play the McDonald's game with the young suspects they were questioning for a homicide. If you've never heard of the McDonalds game, you've probably never been sitting in a little room being grilled by a detective who thinks you're stupid as hell.
I once had the McDonalds game played on me when I was arrested by the ATF... I was "suspected" of being a gunrunner. Needless to say, I didn't fall for the game, mostly because my moms told me to keep my mouth shut... Yes, my mom's gangster!
But here is how the game works just incase you ever find yourself in a jam...
The detective walks into the room where one of the suspects is sitting alone and says, "You must be hungry. You seem like a good kid. I'm gonna send one of the officers down to Mickey D's to grab you whatever you want to eat."
You say, "Nah, I'm good."
The detective says, "Come on kid, you've been in here for 24 hours with no contact with the outside world and no food. I know you're hungry and by law we have to get you at least a kid's nugget meal."
If you say no they will persist until you get something...
Once you get your food they tell the suspect in the other room,"Your boy just flipped for a quarter pounder with cheese, a large fries and a Dr. Pepper. We know you guilty man; he gave us the whole story already. Just tell us what happened and you can go home."
Then they march you right by the room with your co-defendant so he can see that you are indeed eating Mickey D's...
They did this on the show last night and all the detectives stood around laughing after the kid talked. One of the detectives said, "We been doing this same thing for 20 years and they still fall for it..."
Personally, I think its called entrapment... But that's how they do us uneducated minorities in the hood.
Unfortunately, the rest of The Wire wasn't as entertaining. I think the producers and writers are taking us back to season two... Does anyone remember the docks from season two?
I didn't think so...
Let's see if they ruin another great show in the final season... much like they did with the Soprano's...
Shout out to Seth Gilliam and Ramon Rodriguez...
