Have You Met...

Get Up and Do Something

Ok, I'm almost two weeks late in posting this, but sometimes life as a socialite/blogger can get hectic so please forgive me... Now most people who know me for my dealings within the entertainment industry don't know that I have a 9-6 corporate job. Said corporate job bought a table at the annual dinner for the Do Something Organization, and it was at this event that my two worlds collided.

Upon entering the event at Espace (or Espacio as I referred to it all night), I accidentally cut off a light-haired brunette who turned to me and who just happened to be Susan Sarandon. After asking myself why this famed actress is even waiting on line, I quickly said my apologies and let her go ahead of me. She smiled. She was sweet. Just a few moments later, I caught eyes with a baby-faced, braid wearing cutie from across the room. "Divine!" I said aloud. It was in fact Divine of The DEY and next to him, grinning broadly was Yeyo. Suddenly, I was in the middle of an onslaught of welcomed embraces and I'd totally forgotten I'd walked in with my coworkers who would have no clue as to who these guys were even if they do sell ad space on The DEY's music videos. We exchanged, "What are you doing here?" inquiries, I explained my stance and they told me they were performing. I was so happy to see them working an event such as this within the corporate bubble. Elan appeared before Divine and I said hello to the beautiful songstress. I want to put the girl in my pocket she's so cute!

I parted from the group and returned to my co-workers who quickly asked me how it was that I knew people at this event (except Andrew Shue who my eyes fell upon randomly). I quickly said, "They are my friends" without getting into detail. We settled down at our table, listened to Susan Sarandon give an introduction and then have the 14 year-old MC take over. Never in my life could I imagine being either that well-versed as a teenager or that tall; dude was close to six feet! Following him were various DoGooders telling their stories. I was tremendously impressed with the work these kids have done to better their environments and communities. It made me feel like I'm doing nowhere near enough. Apparently blogging won't save the world. Dammit!

Before the evening ended, The DEY came onto the stage performing both their hit "Give You the World" and a new track, "Get the Feeling" produced by Timbaland. My coworkers clapped and swayed along to the music and I smiled appreciatively. They may not know who The DEY is (yet) or how I know them, but the fact that they (people who normally wouldn't listen to hip hop) were enjoying the music, it was all I could ask for. As the show closed, I ran over to congratulate the group who were ecstatic to have been a part of the whole thing. The smiles on their face were genuine and they couldn't have been more grateful. I hope that feeling stays with them no matter how far they go.

While I waited for my car service outside the building next to Espacio, I was suddenly caught in the middle of paparazzi frenzy. Apparently, Lindsay Lohan was attending a party in the apartment building next door to the event. I tried to get away but as she exited the building I realized I was in between her and her huge cavalry of body guards. I was able to jump out just in time, saving my coworker from the stampede in the process. As she drove away and the craziness faded, I wondered why a troubled young woman such as herself wasn't Doing Something good right next door? The world may never know.

Sounds like a wonderful event and I am not surprised The D.E.Y. was a part of it :)
