Have You Met...

Pollo Frito Sprinkled w/Malverde

I first met Daniel Hastings on the eve of my induction into the Room 28 familia. I mistook him for Cuban because he raved about the restaurant we were headed to (a Cuban one). When I realized he was completely NOT Cuban I learned the valuable lesson that you should not judge people by the seasoning of their food (for all you Cajun lovers, I'm sorry I thought you were from Louisiana!)

In the weeks that followed I was privileged to meet one on one with Mr. Hastings, aka Danny Cash, and learned that not only is he down to earth, but super talented and his knowledge of this industry is extensive. I was focused on the advice he was giving me, but I'll admit that learning more of his friendly feud with LatinDaddy was an itch I was dying to scratch. I'm thinking of setting up a Photoshop battle ring so they can go head to head (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, look through their blogs).

Last night, Danny was premiering both a music video he directed for artist Malverde, as well as unveiling the cover of Malverde's new album. The funniest part of the evening was arriving at Fight Klub Studios with LatinDaddy, Steve and Jaime, and not knowing how in the hell to access the building. We stood in what we thought was the elevator lobby for five minutes before realizing the elevator opened outdoors. Oops! We may be funny, but we're not always keen to common sense.

Once we made it up to the 6th floor, we were ushered into the studio that was nearly at capacity by only 7pm. LD spun me in a whirlwind of introductions while Steve and Jaime were recognized for their Room 28 antics. By the time of the premiere and unveiling, I had a stack of business cards in my pocket and grease on my fingers. Gotta love fried finger foods!

Bottom line: the video was gritty and real, and the album cover - amazing! Danny's artistic skill surpasses so many others out there. Thanks to Danny for inviting us and allowing me the opportunity to mingle with so many cool and interesting people.
