Have You Met...

Passing By

As the hours turn into days and days into weeks and weeks into months we all just seem to let life and all of its wonders pass us by. As I sit on the train and type this passage I realize that its tuesday evening and I don't know where my day went. I woke up, showered, went to work, and now its evening and yet another day has passed. And now that I'm on the train I realize that I'm not alone. The expressions on peoples faces tell the same story and share the sentiment as me. We all are wondering if this is it. Is this constant rush, human cattle-like existence life. Is this what life is? Rarely if ever do we get the opportunity to just stop, simply stop and breathe. Yes we go through our phases of time where we admit that there is a problem and that we do need to just take time for ourselves and amazingly we manage to do so for about a week or a month but then sooner than later we manage to fall back into our cattle existence. As I sit and write this I too am guilty of letting it all pass me by. And it saddens me. It really does because we have all heard and used the phrase "life is too short" but we never really appreciate the truth of those four words. In essence we take it all for granted. The majority if not all are not at jobs or in careers where we are genuinely happy. We all wish we were doing something else or at a different place in our lives. I'm in the same situation. However I have accepted the fact that we are all in a state of mind that limits and restricts the desires we want in our lives because of our social or economic status and from this we form excuses that validate our acceptance of mediocrity in a society where life simply passes the masses by and has everyone asking themselves "what if?". I've decided to no longer live in the "what if?" Frame of mind. I've replaced this two word phrase with another two word statement "why not?". Why can't we just go after our dreams? Why can't we stop and appreciate life for all it has to offer? Why can't we acknowledge and stand in awe and amazement of whatever beauty surrounds us, especially in a world that brings to light more ugliness and hideousness as opposed to the beauty and wonder. I don't want to let life pass me by. I don't want walk around asking what if. I don't want to be cattle with a soul. Its not fair; to ourselves and to life itself. We deserve and owe it to ourselves to enjoy everyday we have and share it with those who make them memorable and welcome the possibilities of having new people enter and bring to light the beauty in all as oppose to some. I now appreciate the phrase "life is short" and I understand it as this. It is a phrase that sparks and inspires life is short to those who don't live each day to the fullest because there aren't many experiences that occurred outside the "norm". Which is why life is short to those. However if one lives each and every day to the fullest extent possible. Life is long because in every day memories and experiences are formed and we all know that memories and experiences are everlasting and timeless, which in turn makes life never-ending....
