I was born in the midst of chaos and I was going to be sure to scream out to the world, "watch me now," I'm going to leave my mark before I leave this place.
~ Excerpt from the upcoming memoirs of DJ Disco Wiz.
It's Just Begun: The Epic Journey of DJ Disco Wiz, Hip Hop's First Latino DJ is a biographical composition written by Ivan Sanchez, author of Next Stop: Growing up Wild Style in The Bronx.
Luis "Disco Wiz" Cedeño was born in the Bronx during one of the most difficult economic and social times in the boroughs history.
New York could have claimed Wiz as just another statistic for the politicians to use in their numbers as they made cases for more financial contributions, only to turn around and line their pockets with the monetary gains, while the poor got poorer.
However, Wiz's destiny wasn't one that would allow him to become a number, nor a statistic. He had other plans and he had a name, a name which would go on to carry weight in the streets of the Bronx and eventually the world over.
DJ Disco Wiz wouldn't allow history to define him... He would choose to define history.
Wiz's story is one of determination, adversity, discrimination, poverty and violence... a true tale of survival of the fittest and one that only he can share with the world.
"It's Just Begun" will document Wiz's life and follow him through a rough childhood, his teenage years running with the East Side Boys in the Bronx and his eventual partnership with the legendary Grandmaster Caz, an unlikely meeting which would prove to make them both pioneers in the Hip Hop history books.
This is not a book about Hip Hop... It's a book about one man's struggles to survive the un-survivable, live the unimaginable and come out on the other side with a story to tell and a million lessons to be taught and passed on to the next generation.
Sit up and pay attention, you just might learn something...
This is the story of the legendary DJ Disco Wiz...

It's not until you're in a room with DJ Disco Wiz surrounded by hip hop heads that you really under the power of his place in history and how respected he is. A couple of months ago, I accompanied Wiz to the launch party for Born in the Bronx, a book featuring photographs by esteemed photographer Joe Conzo. Hundreds of people crowded Power House arena in Brooklyn. We barely made it through the door together. Within six seconds he was whisked away from me. I watched him move from crowd to crowd signing his pages in the Conzo book and posing for countless photographs. People just wanted to touch him. I had no idea. "It's Just Begun is his story" - Jenoyne Adams -BLISS Literary Agency International, Inc.
"It's Just Begun is a gritty and emotional express ride through the South Bronx of yesterday and the life and times of one of Hip-Hop's unsung heroes - DJ Disco Wiz. Urban non-fiction at its absolute best!" - Hip Hop Historian-Koe Rodriguez
We all have an inborn sense of right and wrong and know instinctively that violence is wrong. But what of those born in war zones, Iraq, Palestine, Beirut, and the Bronx?
Being born and raised in a climate where violence is as common as the honking of car horns has a way of deadening something inside us and making us numb to the daily reality of pain, blood and death.
Now that Hip Hop is nearing its mid thirties the true and often violent background of the birth of that art form is starting to emerge.
"It's Just Begun" the story of DJ Disco Wiz is one of the most compelling and stark naked revelations of the soil in which Hip Hop grew. It explores the growth from crime to art, from violence to consciousness and though it is a morality tale it never sugar coats or sweetens the reality of the pain, danger and madness of the streets.
- Ernie Paniccioli -Author of who shot ya
"Its Just Begun took me back to when I first came from Cuba in 1971, and most importantly it took me back to the very "essence of what I would become later in life" - Hip Hop Pioneer Mellow Man Ace
"Riveting and truthful -- its haunting words leave you speechless. A cautionary tale for some, a confessionary truth for others, It's Just Begun will have you pinned to your seat throughout the night. You'll be reading it with your night light on, a box of tissues at your side and your heart in your throat." -- Jeff Rivera - Author of Forever My Lady.
If there are words to describe DJ Disco Wiz they would be true survivor. Born in a time when war and injustice was the state of America, This book is a must read for all fathers mothers, sons, daughters, and educators alike, so that one may understand the pain that so many young people, born in harsh conditions have to endure - Jamel Shabazz- Author of Back in the days, A Time before Crack
