A home alike to water and the air we breathe, is a thing all of humanity can relate to. But in today's current state alike to the breath and the water, the quality of it varies in degrees. Or even worse, not have it all. In NYC the metropolitan mode of exploitation does come with loopholes that can be taken advantage of in the pursuit of progress and I don't speak of the kind where the disadvantaged becomes the privileged that later pimps the disadvantaged either. I mean progress as in evolving into a much more natural human and disowning the prepackaged personalities within many boxes we choose from. Pardon for the tangent, but unlike our 3rd world countries, such as in the Caribbean, Africa and the rest of our darker and poorer nations, in NYC you can't just gather some metal, some wood and a few appliances to keep the rain from engulfing you and your children.
We have real estate agencies and landlords, and they come with many conditions, stipulations, company and federal policies. And we don't live with only 2 seasons, being hot and hotter. And taxes, we're definitely in too deep with those, you pay them even if you don't have a job. But homes, a place to live in which is a natural necessity and right, is another human element that only becomes more victimized with each passing day and every new broker that enters this section of the matrix. Brokers want to get people in apartments and get their cut from being the middleman, America loves middlemen, yet then rents are raised while wages are not and making way for this thought that I write upon.
Riding trains everyday exposes people to those personalities that no one cares to learn of because it reminds them of the dirt that they aren't exempt from falling into and despise with fear. I mean naturally, no one wants to live on the streets, begging for change, starving and scrapping for drugs as just a few of the things that homeless people go through. But turning the cheek won't solve that uncomfortable feeling of the compassion that resides within for an unknown member of this human family, when even once your cheek's turn is executed, there's another one in despair. And your iPod isn't loud enough to mute the cries. But layers of defense mechanisms are a result of our talents of self deception acquired in this American society and respond with stereotypical gestures that although are circumstantially true aren't the end all reality to why someone would result to begging for a little bit of the crumbs that you have.
And especially now with the hoods of NYC under heavy attack, which is known as gentrification, homelessness is only going up. This reality to me, serves as evidence of the obvious disregard for human life especially for the community of Original people (Black/Brown/Yellow) in part by the city and state governments of NY.
The line up for Section 8 is longer than any seen at a Jay-Z concert, no shelter has ever been safe, especially for our women and children. The stories that emerge from shelters don't offer any form of entertainment. If that's unbelievable, talk to a friend of mine from the Castle Hill section of the BX who accounted to me about her friend who graduated high school while living on the 6 line for 4 years. This is one example of the shocking forms of enlightenment served to those who believe America is all encompassing with her definition of freedom.
What do we do about it? I can honestly say that I don't know right now. How would we help at rectifying such a situation without federal funding? Or them telling us how to do it? What about looking into abandoned buildings? Are there any of us who are organizing our own real estate agencies? Are there any of us who are landlords and want to help? At this point it's only questions. But for those who do have a place to sleep at night with some sense of safety, at least remember that at night many only posses their own lives and nothing to shelter it.
