Have You Met...

Madison Square Garden - The Greatest Arena in the World!!!!!

Hola Everyone... I sang at the greatest arena in the world on Sunday – Madison Square Garden! It was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back. It was a long week leading up to it. An emotional, physical, meaningful, and somewhat of a struggle; however there was no one and nothing that was going to stop me.

Well to fill you in on a personal note my parents are moving to Peru (that's where my family is from) in May and for the past 6 weeks they were in Peru finalizing their move. Well, they just came back from their trip, right before my performance and of course I am happy for them and want the best for them; however, it was hard for me not having them near me. So they came back and there was a lot of emotion. (Ah!!! Us Latinos we love drama... our lives are truly a soap opera isn't it? LOL) After the emotional roller coaster of realizing and accepting that my parents are moving in a couple of weeks and I probably won't see them for awhile, I, Cynthia Castro, had a performance to prepare for... Rehearsing everyday... working on my walk to center court... my posture... my use of the microphone... the meaning and the connection of our nation's anthem all of this helped me get centered fro my job on Sunday.

As I've been saying preparation and confidence is the key in life. It is a fact, and gratefully a disciplined act, I had to learn in the development of my craft. A GRANDE THANK YOU to my mentor Vera Tisheff for guiding me musically and emotionally for this amazing event. Also special thanks to Farrah Molina for styling my hair and my amazing makeup artist Justine Harrigan and everyone that works at the arena, especially Gary Winkler.

You know in life when you experience the butterflies in the stomach... well yes I had the butterflies in my tummy. It's a great feeling though because to me it means you’re putting it all out there. Here I am one minute before they ring the buzzer to announce me; I am calm, fierce, happy, energetic, nervous, and short (MY GOD BASKETBALL PLAYERS ARE TALL) however most of all focused. I am in the middle of the arena everyone is standing; my name is announced– that's my cue to walk to center court and BOOM– CANTA!!!

I FREAKING LOVE IT :0) Singing fulfills me in every shape and form. I cannot wait to go back to the Garden and be a musical guest at halftime performing the single and having a blast. I have to say one of the most incredible things about being backstage at the Garden is the hallway of photographs off all the famous performers, atheletes, comedians, etc. who played the Garden, Everyone from U2, Sinatra, Celia Cruz, Cher, Tito Puente and more. Seeing those candid photos of these icons in action is so inspiring… its as if they’re watching over you and guiding you.

The key I sang it in was the same key one of my favorite artist's of all time Whitney Houston sang it in for the Superbowl many years ago. To this day her performance of the National Anthem is considered the best of all time. There is such respect when I hear other artists, announcers, etc. talking about that performance... to me that is great artistry... great vulnerability of giving it over and having 200 percent of energy. I dream for that respect everyday.

I posted pictures from the day. More stuff is coming… once again thank you for your support.
