Have You Met...

My TV Porn

TV watching with a man is a delicate thing.  I spend 6 nights a week with my best friend, who happens to be of the male persuasion, and although we agree on about 99% of our TV watching there are a few shows he absolutely refuses to watch that I love.  So on the one night when he is home doing laundry I get to watch all the shows that he calls my “porn.”  What he refers to as my porn are all the home/decorating shows on HGTV like House Hunters, Divine Design and Curb Appeal, the family shows on TLC like Little People, Big World and Jon & Kate Plus 8 and then the reality shows such as The Kardashians and my new fave…I Know My Kid’s a Star.

If you haven’t seen this show yet I don’t even know that I would recommend it because it really is a train wreck.  It is a reality show hosted by a train wreck of a human being…Danny Bonaduce-former child actor, former D.J, former addict.  The premise of the show is that he is looking for the next child actor who has the “it” factor.  But he is also looking for the parent who can be the proper person to help their child through the hell that is Hollywood without turning them into a screwed up kid like Danny was.  Each week the kids go through an acting challenge and one is eliminated.  What is interesting about the show though is that it is more about the parents than about the kids.

Probably the most “interesting” mother is Rocky, a single mom who wears a mini skirt, teeny, tiny tank top and a cowboy hat.  Oh, and did I mention that she wears more makeup than Tammy Faye Baker ever did?  She is the quintessential stage mom who also is into method acting so isn’t that concerned with her daughter actually memorizing her lines.  She is more interested that her daughter Hayley “feels the part.”  For the last 2 challenges Hayley has not known her lines to a song she was supposed to sing or to a short movie scene she was in.  But Danny and a casting director love Hayley’s look and feel that she has that certain something to make it in the industry so they have kept her on the show.  In reality, I think that Rocky makes for such great TV because she fights with the other mothers and is such a hoochie that they would be idiots to kick the pair off the show.  There were 2 fathers on the show, but they were eliminated in the beginning.  Let’s face it, men don’t make for good reality TV watching because they aren’t as bitchy as women, don’t do the whole gossiping behind each others backs and don’t dress like whores to try to impress the judges.  So really, why would they keep them on the show?

I know I shouldn’t like the show because it really isn’t that good but I’m glued to it every time it comes on.  The mothers all talk crap about each other and cry because they say they are just doing it for their kids.  And the kids don’t even seem like they are having that much fun.  Most of the kids are cute and a few are really talented, but it is really more a glimpse into psychotic women who want their children to become famous.  Maybe they are living vicariously through their children or maybe they just truly believe that their kids are talented but whatever the case, some of these women are CRAZY!  So on the night that your boyfriend, girlfriend or significant other is off doing their thing indulge in your “guilty pleasure” TV watching no matter what it is.
