Last year sometime my buddy Luis Guzman spoke to me about a Boricua named Carlito Ruiz Ruiz from the motherland whom luis was about to work with on a movie. Luis went on to tell me how Benicio Del Toro got behind this guy Carlito and his now wife Mariem. I say now because the funny thing is Carlito and Mariem were not married when this project was being developed. Ok I know the question that might come up is "How the F&*K do i know this to be true?" lol. Well, it is so let me keep it moving. Carlito was studying in Chicago when he and Mariem got the opportunity to by chance to meet Benicio they took this opportunity to present him with a trailer to their movie. Benicio dug it and called them up to meet and that is how Benicio got involved with "Maldeamores" and Carlito's ended finding his wife and Co-director in Mariem. There sure is more to it but let's get into the movie itself "Maldeamores" I had the privilege to see it in it's rough cuts to the final product. I've watched "maldeamores" about 5 times already and I'm not a film critic but am a film maker and and actor and that allows me to say that this movie is amazing. I love all the characters in it especially the viejitos they stole this movie. Luis is just a sprinkle of the right flavor for this movie Luis Gozanga is the boricua Vincent Di'norfio...lol. The movie was shot in Puerto Rico and is showcased through three love stories I really don;t want to tell you anymore about it except that this movie has "Heart" this movie has "soul" and you guys have to check it out.

I saw this last Friday, such a warm and cuddly flick! Loved it. Although I'm not sure I can ever view my abuela in the same light lol. Nah, the viejitos DEF took the movie.
Yes! This movie is wonderful! I am telling everyone I know to go see it and support a great Latino movie in its opening week!! It was truly fun and touching to watch. And those viejitos... they make me unafraid to get old!
Thanks for posting this! I'm a foreign film aficionado and typically like spanish films for their great stories and themes. i hope a find it in a cinema near me!
I was lucky enough to catch this trailer at NALIP and it was hilarious! Props to MAYA for picking up this feature and distributing it to an audience that has been waiting for films like this!
