So there's 10 games left in the regular season and the Yankees have cut a 14 1/2 game deficit to the Boston Redsox to 1 1/2 games.

As I mentioned before the All-Start break, baseball is all about pitching and if the Yanks could get their pitchers healthy they would be back in contention.  That I knew all along, what I didn't know was that they would get solid pitching from 21 and 22 year old pitchers not the veterans making all the $. 

Phil Hughes (21yrs. old), Ian Kennedy (22yrs. old) and the amazing Jaba Chaimberlain (21yrs, old) are the culprits of this Yankee pitching staff that has them being the hottest team in baseball heading into the most important stretch in baseball.  (By the way...not one of them is making more than $300,000 a year, while the Rocket is making $25 million and has been way less productive)

I have to tell ya that even I'm impressed by the way (GM) Brian Cashman has handled this year.  I mean he had plenty of opportunity to flex his financial muscles mid year when the Yanks were down and out and instead he called on his minor league system and took a risk of not only his future but the future of these up and coming studs by bringing them up too early.

In the end, it was the Redsox who looked like fools by flexing their financial muscles right before the deadline and acquiring Eric Gagne for millions who has done absolutely nothing besides lose and blow saves  (The Yanks might as well be paying him too).  And I have to admit that I was one of those people that gave shit to Cashman for not even going after him.  (honestly the first time I've ever been wrong)

These next few weeks are going to be interesting but I think for the Yankees to make it to the show they have to finish what they started, take the East Division crown, and play the Angels in a 7 game League Championship Series instead of 5.
