Have You Met...

My First Time at a Recording Studio w/ Hip-hop Artists

Last week I went on a shoot with our SiTV Preditor (producer/editor). We interviewed the latin hip-hop artist Sinful and his crew at Roscoe's (a Filipino hip-hop artist) studio out in Culver City. It was definitely my first time at a recording studio, and I really liked it! I finally understood what all it takes to produce a single track and of course, an album. From the huge computer monitor and the mixing board to the blaring loudspeakers, I was thrilled to see behind-the-scenes in recording a track (I got to see Sinful do some work). And I was amazed by the speed he recorded...I mean he barely messed up...just did his thing quite smoothly. The best part was listening to all the guys in the studio talk about their endeavors and their accomplishments. First, Roscoe talked about the struggles his family went through but took that as motiviation and inspiration to where he is now (he draws from his life experiences to create lyrics). Then he got all excited talking about the fusion of Filipino and Latino artists. Next, they beamed at the fact that Sinful's track was the only top 20 hip-hop single being spun at this one radio station to be on an indie label. Power to all the independents! All in all, it was good to see these artists doing their thing (no matter what the struggle) and making their dreams happen.
