I am never really impressed with cover bands. PERIOD. Its been done! Leave it alone. That is until my friend Jenna from the Bay sent me some MP3s of Detroits very own "The Dirt Bombs". Now.. If your covering Stevie Wonder, then.. Wow.. The nerve, the guts, and never the glory. That is until I heard the Dirt Bombs version of "Living in the City".
The song is personalized and even twised in the last verse by being sung in Spanish. When I hear the Dirt Bombs it takes me a janky bar somewhere in Texas. What makes the Dirt Bombs uniuqe by todays standards is the fact that they mesh soul with gritty guitar funk. Think White Stripes mixed with Al Green. Or.. Say.. Sam Cooke meets Franz Ferdinand. Imagine Motown giving birth to Classic Rocks son. And out of the womb exits The Dirt Bombs.
My comparisons may be a little off, but those are the first things that come to mind when listening to the Dirt Bombs.
